山光忽西落，池月渐东上。

Suddenly sunlight fades o'er Western Hill；

Gradually moonbeams spread on Eastern Pool.

散发乘夕凉，开轩卧闲敞。

With hair uncombed，I lie in evening still；

With windows opened，I enjoy the cool.

荷风送香气，竹露滴清响。

The lotus spreads its fragrance in the breeze；

Dew drips on the bamboo with a sound clear.

欲取鸣琴弹，恨无知音赏。

I would play on my lute a tune to please，

But where can I find a connoisseur's ear？

感此怀故人，终宵劳梦想。

I think of you，my dear friend out of sight，

But you come into my dream at midnight.
